Today TJ and I worked mostly on his right side.
He wants to turn and face me when I am on his right hand side. By doing this he puts me into his binocular visual field and this is the only place he has depth of field so he can see how close or far away I am.
The diagram below shows the horse's visual field:

As my hand reaches up to touch his rump on either side it goes into his marginal field of vision which prompts him to move, both his head towards me and his hindquarters away, in order to get a better view of what I am doing.
The video shows he is slowly learning that it is alright if I go into his marginal areas from time to time but there is still a lot of work to do.
TJ had a great day. He learned a lot of different things and is really starting to 'think' first and react second.
