Learning Patterns

A little bit of progress each session is what I am always looking for with TJ. Sometimes it is important to reassess the lesson plan and see if the same thing can be achieved more easily for the horse.

I did that today as the video shows. It seemed to be helpful for him and he settled well into the new pattern.

Horses are great pattern learners and if we can set the pattern up so that it is likely to elicit the desired response then the lesson should be easy for the horse to understand and minimally stressful. There is no doubt that any lesson, especially when dealing with a horse with such high levels of fear, is going to be at least somewhat stressful for the animal but it is my job to keep this to a level that TJ is emotionally capable of dealing with.
